Do you remember reading an article online with a video of American hiphop artiste Soulja Boy announcing his coming to Ghana? I guess it might ring a bell since almost all media houses in the country – radio and TV stations, websites and newspapers helped in its publication because Soulja Boy would have been part of the few American hiphop artistes who have been to Ghana.
Ghanaian entertainment industry has grown to a point that if we don’t take care, little mistakes might draw us back. If care is not taken, the ECG, Ghana Water Company, MTN and other company’s behavior of giving a barrel full of promises but fulfill few will set in the entertainment world which will go a long way to affect us negatively. Why I’m I saying this? Celebrities promise of embarking on projects and we don’t hear or see anything about their activities after they make the public aware of their gargantuan pledges. Event organizers also make noise about their events and days, months and possibly years will pass by without the event happening.
So now lets zoom into the main discussion. On May 10th, 2013, it went viral that American rapper, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur DeAndre Cortez Way, better known by his stage name Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, will be in three African countries including Ghana for the first time in his career with a massive concert. In the said publication, it read “The African Tour which is powered by Swag Family Legacy Entertainment in collaboration with EDGE53, is set to host Soulja Boy in three African countries. The Ghana edition of the tour is set to take place at the Accra International Conference Centre this year (2013).”
So from my quote above, Soulja Boy was to be in Ghana in the year 2013 kind courtesy EDGE 53 and Swag Family Legacy Entertainment but that didn’t happen. If my Class 2 Mathematics still works very well, it’s been ten months since Soulja Boy coming to Ghana was announced but when exactly the “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” hitmaker will touch down on the soils of Ghana, I can’t tell.
I remember clearly that Americans took to various social media networks to blast Ghanaians and Soulja Boy after his coming to Ghana was announced because they weren’t happy about that.
So since nine months have passed and we have still not seen or heard Soulja Boy stage any concert in Ghana, then where is ‘Soulja Boy in Ghana’ concert?
Let me remind you of EDGE 53 if you’ve forgotten about the event organisers. They are the organizers of the first time ever Accra Nightlife Awards and partnered with Empire Entertainment for last year’s Ghana Meets Naija concert. Don’t forget Cassidy was billed to perform at the first edition of Accra Nightlife Awards held on Saturday 23rd February, 2013 at Event Haven inside the trade fair center. Come to think of it, when is the second edition coming off because it’s almost a year now since the maiden edition was held?
EDGE 53, your answers are needed here because Ghanaians are interested in your good works. Let’s help promote Ghana’s entertainment industry with your good works. We are 100% supporting you!
