‘A Northern Affair’ wins big at Ghana Movie Awards & See The Full List Of Winners

The 2013  Ghana Movie Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday was full of drama, which appeared scripted to ‘unite’ perceived factions in the Ghana Movie industry.

From Leila Djansi and Shirley Frimpong-Manso sharing the nod for Best Director award which was presented by Akorfa Ejeani Asiedu (who has been involved in a very public split with Leila) to Sandra Ankobiah presenting the award for Favouirte Actress to her former BFF, Yvonne Nelson, it was clear that the organizers wanted to make a statement.

The award also suffered some hitches including calling out wrong winners in wrong categories.

Leila Djansi was the biggest winner for the night sweeping home eight (8) awards with her new movie-“Northern Affair.” Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s collaboration with Yvonne Okoro on the movie-“Contract” got two awards. Yvonne Nelson’s “House of Gold” also took home two awards.

OJB calls out D'banj in new intervew, says celebs used his donation as competition

During an interview with Inspiration FM's Gloria Maduka post surgery, veteran music producer OJB Jezreel addressed controversy surrounding his donations, said celebs used it as competition and calls out Dbanj. Here's why he's unhappy with D'banj. During his fund raiser many months back, there were rumours that D'banj gave his former music producer N7m, a report that D'banj didn't deny.

OJB says D'banj didn't give him a dime and was upset that he didn't try to set the record straight

"The most disappointing one for me is D'banj because he passed through my hands, he was trained under my tutelage. That is offensive. I don't care if you're with Kanye West, you can't forget your root. I won't call anybody else's name but I will call his because it hurts. His own hurts very deep. And he never tried to reach out to me. It's not like we parted on fighting terms.  He told me he had to go to London and he went. And when he came back it was Don Jazzy, and I said OK, that's fine.

And what he did worked and I'm very proud of him, the love I had for him, that's why it hurts more. He should have come out to say no, I don't know why you people are saying all this, I didn't give OJB N7million, maybe a part of him felt embarrassed because at the end of the day, really, are you not supposed to do something?" OJB says during the interview

He also talked about how people used his fund raiser as competition and once again addresses the bounced cheques. Continue....

F1 legend Michael Schumacher fighting for his life following horrific skiing accident

Retired Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, 44, is fighting for his life after he fell and hit his head on a rock while skiing off piste with his 14-year-old son Mick in the resort of Meribel in the French Alps yesterday morning Sunday December 29th,2013.

Doctors who treated the seven-time Formula One world champion said he would ‘have died’ had he not been wearing a crash helmet. But despite the helmet, Michael Schumacher suffered serious head injuries that has left him in a coma since the accident. The German driver required immediate brain surgery as he got to the hospital and is currently being kept in an induced coma, officials said.

Speaking at a press conference at the Grenoble Hospital where he's being treated, Doctors said they can't predict the future for Michael Schumacher.

It's official! D'banj and Genevieve Nnaji are back together!!! #Naija #LetsGoAfrica

This is not rumour o...it's fact. The Kokomaster, 33, and Nigerian screen goddess Genevieve Nnaji, 34, are back together two years after they parted ways and this is a LIB exclusive.

Genny is currently staying at D'banj's Lekki home, and I hear they are already talking marriage. Yes I said marriage. Don't know if it will happen, but they are currently talking about it, so in case it happens, remember y'all read it here first. *Wink*.

The loved up couple dated on and off from 2009 to 2011 before Genevieve broke off the relationship because of D'banj's commitment issues.

Clearly, D’banj was head over heels in love with Genevieve because in March 2010, he confirmed in an interview that the two were an item.

A message from Mercy Johnson-Okojie

2013 has been an incredible year for me. I couldn’t ask for more. It is one year I won’t forget in a hurry.

My fans were amazing. They stood by me and took on my fight. The critics played their parts too. I took the constructive ones, made adjustment and became a better person.

How can I forget 2013, the year I had the honour of being the most searched Nollywood actress for the third consecutive year. I am most grateful to the fans who worked the keyboard or keypad reading about me online.

I am grateful to my team, the media and management company, Bigsam Media that became like sponge, wiping away the negative past and soaking in the future. I am most grateful.

Social media, Twitter most especially, played significant role in reaching out directly. The teaming fans on Twitter and other platforms, this is for you; thank you for loving, tolerating and being there for me.

"I'm not ready for marriage' says Flavour

In a new interview with Vanguard, highlife artist Flavour said he's single and not thinking of marriage

People will always talk and turn around stories. But I am still single because marriage is not my priority for now. I  still want to hit the top before thinking about marriage. It’s not yet time. I am still concentrating on my music.

Flavour also explains how he manages to stays away from controversy/scandal

I try to stay away from trouble. For instance, I don’t even  go to clubs. Any time I want to do something, I do it in the comfort of my house. I party inside my house. I do my  recording inside my house. When you start mingling and partying with everybody in different places that is where one or two things would start to emerge.

I’m either here in my house or in my second house on the Island. When you mingle much with people, at times you start trusting people that are not supposed to be trusted. You start having divided attention. You would take a picture and make joke with it and tomorrow it’s all over the newspapers and internet.

Lil Win rules Kumawood with two Akoben Awards nods!!!!

At the announcement of Nana Benyin Anumel of Luv fm and Dayan Aduhene of Otec Fm as MCs for this year’s edition of the Kumawood and Akoben Movie Awards, one was definitely going to witness a very great show if the patrons and actors corporated and that was the exact story witnessed at the True Vine Hotel at Ahodwo in Kumasi on Friday December 28th 2013.

The event which was well attended by the major players in the industry including Agya Koo, Lilwin, Vivian Jill Lawrence, Kwaku Manu, Oboy Salinko, Emelia Brobbey, Bill Asamoah, Akrobeto and tall list of others also for the first time had huge attendance by movie watchers.

With the commencement of the event, awards were given to deserving winners one after the other but was met with the canker which many had criticized and wish to see a change. Coordination for this year’s event was on point and saw a smooth run of the awards.

Among performers on the night were Kwaku Manu, ChickiCherker and buzzing Gospel musician Caleb Awuah.

Hammer of The Last 2 Music Group Advises Ghanaian Musicians on Twitter Verification

Legendary beat producer and CEO of The Last 2 Music Group Nana Poku known widely as Hammer has advised Ghanaian musicians to be rather cautious and not in a hurry to get their accounts verified on social networking platform Twitter.

“Who could’ve ever predicted that 140 characters could screw up so many people’s lives? But that’s exactly what has happened to politicians, executives, government staff and others because of their comments on Twitter. This social media platform has morphed from a fun place to an information hub to a career killer.”

At the back of recent events where information gathered indicates many Ghanaian musicians are in a rush to pay for their accounts to be verified, Hammer believes it is great to be verified as that makes any communication from their handles authentic and genuine. He however cautioned them not to lose sight of the fact that verification made them vulnerable to prosecutions for lose tweets and has advised them to be responsible with their handles as they could be dragged to court for any lose words sent through that channel.

Jupitar captivates Accra Sports Stadium with live band show

At the highly anticipated annual 'Loud in GH' concert hosted by YFM on Christmas night, Jupitar "Di General" captivated the hearts of Accra's dancehall fans with a shocking live band performance.

For the first time ever, this year's Loud in GH concert, dubbed the "Dancehall Xplosion", was specially devoted to Ghana's Reggae and Dancehall artistes.

Headlining the event were Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Kaakie, Jupitar and Samini, and thousands crowded the stadium to come and witness the show sponsored by Guinness.

Many upcoming dancehall and reggae acts came on stage to share their presence as well but no performer shocked the crowd like Jupitar.

My ‘Metamfo’ song is not gospel says Bisa KDei

Bisa KDei says his hit song ‘Metamfo’ is not a gospel song as perceived by majority of Ghanaian music enthusiasts.

His remark followed queries raised by some entertainment pundits about why the song was not nominated for the 2013 edition of Ghana Gospel Industry Awards which came off last night.

The awards ceremony which was organized by Adom FM had ‘Alternative Gospel Song’ category which nominated songs that have streaks of gospel in them.

Sarkodie’s ‘Hallelujah’, EL’s ‘See Me Suffer’, Brenya’s ‘Life’, and Lil Shaker’s ‘Amen’ were all nominated. But some people argued that Bisa’s ‘Metamfo’ also deserved nomination. This is because it did not only have some streaks of gospel in it, but was also very popular.

However, Bisa told a section of Ghanaian media during the launching of his 16-track album at the Silver Lounge of the Accra Mall on Saturday afternoon that “my song is not a gospel song,” to obviously end any controversy between him and the organizers of the awards.
