Sarkodie was the biggest winner at the just ended 4syteTV Music Video Awards, bagging 5 nods including and the most influential artiste on the night with his ‘Illuminati’ video.
The ‘Illuminati’ video which was shot on location in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and directed by Gyo Gyimah of Phamous Philms estimated to cost about US$90.000 picked “Best Hip Hop Video”, “Best Directed Video”, Most Popular Video” and “Overall Best Video/ Most Influential Artiste”.
Sarkodie also picked the “Best Storyline Video” of the year alongside Jayso and Efya with “I’m In Love with Your Girlfriend”. Other winners on the night included Okyeame Kwame’s “Woara” featuring Raquel picked the “Best Edited Video”.
Asem’s “Wasted” and Efya’s “Getaway” videos picked the “Best Male Video” and “Best Female Video” home respectively. “You Are Jesus” by Nii Okai was adjudged as the “Best Gospel Video”.
The awards started on a disappointing note at 10:45pm, several hours to the advertised time. Clearly, the Music Videos awards is a big brand but some elements in the organising company are not taking the brand seriously. It wasn’t so surprising to some of us as the error in commencing the event on time followed the organisers throughout the show.
Microphones decided not to work when needed the most. Coordination was poor. There were instances were presenters of awards were rudely cut midway during their introductory remarks before announcing the nominees video to be played.
Business as usual tickets was shamefully oversold and the auditorium was very congested. The auditorium was so hot that, it can fit the description of an oven. I’m not exaggerating; the place was hot that, patrons have to result to fanning themselves with their tickets. Others resulted to other means to get fresh air but to no avail.
The staggering performance from currently the hottest Dancehall artiste and biggest artiste in Ghana and Sarkodie’s superb opening act couldn’t save the show from being tagged as a ‘poor show’.
