“Local Language Movies Should Stand Alone”- Isaac Amoako

One of the popular Kumawood actors popularly known as Isaac Amoako has told your reliable Flex newspaper he is not enthused about the new changes where local language movies and glamour movies are being put together to compete for this year's Ghana Movie Awards.

According to Isaac Amoako who has played a lot of enviable roles in the local movies, he believes the organizers are only trying to use ways and means to rob the glamour on the shoulders of the local movies.

“This is not correct, we should be independent. They are only finding ways to bring back glamour movies on point. Why now? Why didn't they put us together when they were at their peak? And now that they are collapsing, they find it worthy to bring us together. They want to ride on our back,” Isaac Amoako remonstrated.

“Even if the selection board could be objective, I wouldn't be worried, but knowing the way Ghanaians are, it will be very difficult to compare a Kumawood movie to a glamour one and vote for the local movie. My brother, just call any of the members on the selection board and ask them about a Kumawood movie and he or she will tell you point blank that, he doesn't remember the last time he watched a Kumawood movie. How can people like this vote a Kumawood movie over a glamour movie? We want our independence period,” Isaac added.
He continued that he is going to garner support from his colleague Kumawood actors and actresses to fight this development because it is not in their favor. It is to be noted that, the organizers of the Ghana Movie Awards as part of their changes made this year have combined Akan movies and some glamour movies to compete in same categories and this is where players in the Akan movie industry are fighting against.
