Amakye Dede's Red Tomatoes suit on Fashion 101

Celebrated highlife musician Amakye Dede, came up for mentioning and got the most reviews in episode 2 of the first Season of Fashion 101, which aired on TV3, on Saturday.

Hostess Sandra Ankobiah was not enthused by what looked like an all red tomatoes suit suit with black shoes, while panel member Chester Annie felt he was the worst dressed personality on the Star Watch segment.

And as if that wasnt enough, the Iron Boy was caught by the sharp camera lenses of Fashion 101 when he appeared at a different public event in that same design, albeit, of a different colour, pink. Edem Osei Nyarko, a guest on the show, said pink as a colour was too shining for a night out and would rather have the musician wear a pink top over black pants and shoes.

It wasnt all negative on episode two. Former Miss Universe contestant and wife of Ghanaian footballer Sulley Muntari, Menaye Donkor impressed the panel with her straight dress local fabric attire, which she recently wore to the screening of a Ghanaian movie. Linda Annan, another guest on the show, passed Donkors dress code as the Best Dressed, which the other members agreed.

The dress code of other celebrities including Mzbel, Ama Konadu Abebrese, Adjetey Pusher Annang, Wanlov Kubulor, and Yvonne Okoro came up for scrutiny, as the panel members made sense of their various outfits.

This weeks episode also saw Sandra the hostess; take to the Red Carpet of the just ended Ghana Movie Awards, to find out what Ghanas celebrities wore for the occasion. Lydia Forson, Yvonne Nelson, Akua Ataa (Kyeiwaa), Joshua Clottey, Koo Fori, Prince David Osei, Shaida Buari, Van Vicker and Nana Ama McBrown among others, revealed the small and big names behind what they were wore to the Black-Tie event.

This weeks Make-over segment saw celebrated fashion designer Aisha Obuobi of Christie Brown, give one lucky young lady Mimi, a complete personality beauty change over. In all, it was a good episode of a show that is already making waves across the television landscape.

In its second week, Fashion 101 is currently the most talked about television program in Ghana.

Hosted by the stunning and chic Sandra Ankobiah, the 30-minute program airs on TV3 every Saturday, 8:30am.

HIP LIFE ARTISTE GURU:”LAPAZ TOYOTA” IS THE FINAL ROUND

Hip life and Empire Records signed artiste Guru has released what is now becoming the final round for the popular dance AZONTO with his latest single called “La paz Toyota” which has a classic video to its credit.

In 2011 the popular dance for the year was AZONTO that won the reference of online Wikipedia’s choice for review and publication could not have been better without the final touch from the controversial Guru as that line of music has never been his angle but why, we asked him?

Guru said, if you count my singles released last year before December, you will notice that it was all controversial songs, so heavy that the last but one single released from me called “President” got alot of people asking questions about me trying to laugh at the MUSIGA congress, which was never in my mind, so as the year was ending, i had to give my fans something to calm them and mostly importantly something that can dance to hence “Lapaz Toyota”.

In explaining more about the song, Guru said, even though i wanted an Azonto song for the fans, i truly wanted a different feel for it, so Ball J, the engineer of the song said he had a techno Azonto beat for me, i went there listened to it, loved it, killed it and now everybody is enjoying it -Lapaz Toyota.

Talking about the classic video, he also noted that, his management team and himself wanted something a different video that will match the song, one that will be easily identified by the majority and will be appreciated by the fans, so an old school feel was added to it.

Note that Lapaz Toyota is the final around for AZONTO in the country, it is not to close the popular trend but to set new standards, if you ask me, i think so far so good for the song. People love it, DJs enjoy it, Clubs bang it and my fans always jam to it.

In his final words, Guru thanked his fans for been there all this while, Djs for playing his songs and his team for the support, this he said: ‘ Odo me di car no b3 mao, baby i get cars but i want buy chao -Lapaz Toyota’ i guess that is the freestyle from the current banging hit single.

Was Kicked Out of Praye -Praye Tenten Finally Speaks Out!!

Praye Tenten, the tallest member of hiplife trio, Praye, has finally come out of his shell to speak about what he considers as an unfair deal given him by his former mates, Eugene Baah (Praye Ho Ne Ho) and Steven Fiawoo (Praye Tiatia).

According to Praye Tenten, for seven months after his break-up with the group, the two have been saying all sorts of things about him which are not true. In an interview with Showbiz last Sunday, Praye Tenten (real name Nana Adu Koranteng) said that he had heard the two on several occasions granting radio interviews and saying that he had grown wings and that is why he went solo.

Praye Tenten said that was false, rather he explained that it was Eugene who told him point blank that he didn’t want him in the group because of one minor issue.

Asked whether he has made any attempt to get to them after his break-up, he explained that he has placed calls and sent several messages to them but they have refused answering his calls and replying to his messages.

“I feel very bad that the two are treating me this way. The three of us have suffered in bringing up the group this far and I don’t think this is what I deserve after my contribution to the group” Praye Tenten said.

Explaining what really happened before he was kicked out of the group, Praye Tenten told Showbiz someone insulted Eugene and he went to deal with the fellow. According to him, he was asked to apologise and after his apology, the same Eugene told him he can’t be part of the group again.

According to him, he initially thought it was a joke until he saw the two perform on stage without him. Asked what the future holds for him, he said he will not fold his hands between his thighs and go hungry and that he is preparing to come out with his own album soon. Praye Tenten added that, the two owe him and he needs his money if they claim he shouldn’t be part of the group anymore.

Eugene Baah had a different story to tell Showbiz. According to him, he never kicked Praye Tenten out and that he wanted to go solo so he was given three months to decide after which he finally said he wanted to go solo. “I don’t know why he keeps saying I kicked him out of the group, I never did that and will never do that, we are a group who were doing so well so why would I do such a thing” Eugene explained. He denied that Praye Tenten was owed any money. He said, however, that if Praye Tenten wanted to come back to the group, no one is stopping him.

233 CONNECT THANKS GHANAIANS: “A GOOD YEAR IT’S BEEN FOR US”

The early months of 2011 marked our grand entry into Ghana’s entertainment industry. The ‘events management and production sector’ saw the birth of a new, innovative, young company christened 233Connect. Never has a new entrant made such an impressive statement when so little was expected of it, than what we offered last year. To those who kept faith, and walked with us throughout last year, we offer our sincerest gratitude.

233 Connect started the first quarter of last year in grand style, with the Fabolous and Redcafe Live in Ghana concert. We proved to the industry our firm desire to break into a territory that, for a very long time, had been monopolized. The Fabolous and Redcafe concert, which also hosted Nigeria’s sensational Ice Prince, Brymo and Wiz Kid, alongside a top core of Ghana’s finest acts including Sarkodie, VIP, 4X4 and Kelvin Beats, went down in history as one of the biggest and best foreign act concerts ever to be staged in Ghana.

Thanks to you, our numerous patrons, 233Connect is now associated with star quality, style and precision. Today, stakeholders are aware of the existence of our brand and what we are able to offer. Throughout all three concerts this year, you have been there, supporting us every step of the way.

The consistent support of our hardworking production team including: Master Mix, Big Ideaz, Controlite Gh and our security detail Events Security, was enough to see us through a very challenging but equally exciting year. To the dozens of companies who partnered us, including the Multimedia Group, Global Media Alliance and other media houses, supermarkets, ticketing, travel and tours, airlines, hotels, rentals and managers of the DOME among others, we are most grateful.

The plaudits after our first concert was enough to spur us on to the Mario and Shontelle Live in Ghana concert, our second event of the year. After appealing extensively to hardcore music lovers, with a heavy music policy (rap) on our first concert, 233 Connect displayed versatility in our mild offering of Mario and Shontelle, to the Ghanaian people. The support we enjoyed from the huge number of people who trooped to the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre was indicative of the level of appreciation the Ghanaian people have for us; and we are glad we did not disappoint.

Against popular misconception that “soft, musical concerts don’t sell in Ghana”, and true to pre-event expectations, the Mario and Shontelle concert in July lived up to its billing, thanks to you, our cherished patron and partner. Both acts on the night were simply awesome, dishing out some of their favourite songs to a crowd that knew all too well about them. Also on the bill, were Nigeria’s KAS of “Femile” fame and multiple award winning Angolan Kaduro-dance act, Cabo Snoop; amongst others included Ghana’s CHASE, Tiffany, Raquel and Atumpan.

Three months after putting together one of the best R&B concerts in recent times in Ghana; we staged a return with what is still being touted as the “best concert” after the Fabolous and Redcafe concert. Once again, you helped in making it a huge hit.

The T-Pain Live in Ghana concert by every extension is one event that will, for a very long time, stay fresh in the minds of all who patronized it. Just as we promised, the concert; which also featured Nigeria’s biggest selling rap act M.I; Ghana’s VIP, KWAW Kese, Kelvin Beats, BUKBAK, Gasmilla and Keche; passed as the biggest event in Ghana around December 2011.

For a company that has barely chalked a year in the industry, the December 2011 concert offered us a good platform to showcase our potential as one of Ghana’s leading event companies. True to our word, we delivered. Every detail, from the technical arrangement to artistic delivery, was on point – a true indication that we have arrived, and ready to offer an alternative live musical experience – one that you (our patrons) deserve.

In all, it’s been a good year for us. Putting together three exciting shows in nine months – a feat that is rare for newcomers in Ghana, is something we are excited about and we know thousands of you identify with us in this accomplishment. We consider our success, a collective victory.

As we move into another gear this year; looking towards celebrating a year in the Ghanaian events industry; we promise a better, efficient, effective and more improved 233Connect.

Long live Ghana’s entertainment industry, long live 233Connect.

CATCH FASHION 101 ON TV3 EVERY OTHER SATURDAY, @ 8:30AM.

The much awaited maiden edition of new television show FASHION 101, made its first screen appearance on Saturday December 31, at exactly 8:30am on TV3.

Given the level of anticipation by most stakeholders and the keenness with which they waited for the first show, it was expected that it wouldn’t be just one of those half-baked shows. And true to the pre-maiden edition hype, FASHION 101, rocked.

Hosted by the ever glamorous and dazzling Sandra Ankobiah, Miss Ghana 2002 Runner-Up, the 30-minute show, FASHION 101 takes viewers on a journey of the usually unnoticed fashion blunders and statements they make on daily basis, to other finer details that make all the difference on one’s persona.

The producers have said they are optimistic of the success of a show that from all indications is going to be a major talking point over the coming weeks that the first 13 episodes would be shown.

“Fashion 101 shall be a leading fashion programme which will capture the hearts of millions of viwers, providing its audience with real fashion direction throughout Africa and beyond,” they’ve said.

The producers also “aim to promote Ghanaian fashion designers and encourage them to create trends for Ghana and the international market”.

FASHION 101 comes at a time when the fashion industry in Ghana needs a bit of prepping up, and it is expected that it will deliver just that.

“It is an interactive, educative, entertaining and viewer-friendly television show ready to set trends”.

On a typical Fashion 101 edition, a four-member panel comprising Chester Annie, Sandra the host and two others, will critique Ghanaian celebrities on their style of dressing, make-up, and hairstyle at any event.

The second part of the programme will see a visibly out of tune fashion victim, completely given a new look and appeal. Every week, a Ghanaian designer provides the clothing for this segment, and the make-up is done by some of the industry’s finest hands.

“On every edition, a lucky individual would get that unique opportunity of having a complete make-over done on him or her. Here, what we would be looking out for, is how the person looked before and after the makeover, and also, whether fashion has been giving a meaning or not”.

Fashion 101 is executive produced by Emerald Paradise Productions, of which Sandra is the CEO, and supported by the Aviation Social Centre, Wardrobe Essentials, Ark Accessories and Tracy J.

It airs on TV3, every other Saturday, at 8:30am.

Eazzy debunks rumours that she left Lynx Entertainment

Singer/rapper, Eazzy has issued a statement to debunk allegations that she had left her Lynx Entertainment management. She said she remains with the Lynx Entertainment label and also called for a retraction from the publishers of the falsehood.

She explains: “I would normally keep quiet about rumors and false news, but this particular story I find infuriating because it not only tells lies, but attempts to destroy my image and that of my management team. ‘Ghana Celebrities.com’ wrote an article stating that I plan on leaving Lynx Entertainment. This story is completely false, factually inaccurate and unprofessional. I am disappointed that the website can release such a story without any facts.”

“To clear the air, I am still very much on Lynx Entertainment, and contrary to what the article implied, not only does my team remain the same, but an A&R department has been added on, which is making the team even more efficient. Presently I am getting ready to start a lot of projects to continue building myself as an artist, such as my upcoming ‘Go Go Wind Video Tour’ and I’m upset that such immature journalism may coincide with my plans.”

“I publicly demand a retraction and an apology from ‘Ghana Celebrities.com’, and I believe they will do so, if they believe themselves to be decent journalists.”

MUSIGA calls for a media ceasefire on publishing photos of singer who exposed her vagina on stage

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has taken notice of media reports concerning a Ghanaian female musician whose dressing mistakenly led to an exposure of her vagina, and was captured by a photo journalist during a recent Performance. The union has issued a statement advising media practitioners not to publish the said photos.

The statement reads as follows: “Our investigations have revealed that whereas there is some proof to the story, this was due to an unfortunate costume mishap. Musiga is highly concerned that this issue has gone too far with the media taking great interest in it. The newspaper which broke the story has indicated to publish the said photograph of the musician in an uncensored manner on its front pages on January 6th 2012.”

“In as much as MUSIGA respects the freedoms of the media and appreciate its contribution to the growth of the music industry, the Union would want to intervene in this instance and call for a cease fire on this issue. “Inappropriate dressing” among some Ghanaian Musicians has become a major source of concern not only to the general Ghanaian populace but to members of the Union and steps are being taken by the new administration to educate its members on paying heed to cultural sensitivities in their public appearance and pronouncements.”

“The new MUSIGA under the leadership of President Obour would be rolling out programs through workshops and seminars to educate its members on several issues including artiste appearance and dressing. Publishing the private parts of any Ghanaian woman would to a large extent not only be an embarrassment to the artiste in question but to womanhood in general. It can also traumatize and destroy the career of an up and coming Ghanaian superstar and we believe that, it is not the motive of the media to destroy our stars but has been a major partner in building up stars on the contrary.”

“We live in a part of the world where women empowerment is still an issue and fewer women have the courage to venture into certain careers, including music. MUSIGA, in the interest of protecting its members and female members most especially, is of the opinion that the media would be doing more harm than good to society if it goes ahead to publish the said photographs of the female musician in question. Once again, MUSIGA expresses gratitude to the media for its support over the years and we look forward to a more fruitful relationship in 2012 and beyond.”

Funny Face kisses Nadia Buari in public

Ghanaian comedian, Funny Face almost had his wish to kiss star actress, Nadia Buari come true at the December edition of the ‘1000 laughs and Music’ show, when the actress offered Funny Face her cheek to kiss.

It all started when the comedian spotted the sexy actress in the crowd, and started making some subtle jokes about her. When Funny Face referred to Nadia as his most desired lady in Ghana, Nadia blew him a kiss which caused him to ‘faint’ on stage. When he got up, he told that crowd that if only blowing a kiss his way could make him faint then he could imagine what a real kiss would do to him. Soon he started inciting the crowd to cheer Nadia on to grant him a kiss. Nadia bowed to the pressure and moved towards Funny Face to hug him. She then turned over her left cheek for a peg from the funnyman.

Funny Face them remarked that he wasn’t going to bath for a long time so the kiss would linger on. Hmm, the things people get away with in the name of comedy!!!

RnM DROPS SECOND VIDEO: CONTROVERSY OVER CONTENT!!!

The song follows in the rather popular trend of the new "genre" of
music, what is generally known as the "Azonto". But the success of the
song strays away from what genre it is but rather identifies itself
with an exceptional delivery and a rather complimentary video. RnM was
discovered on the hit music reality series " Vodafone Icons", after
emerging winners, the group dropped their debut single which
transported them into the spotlight.

"Let Ya hair Down" was the perfect start for them as a group. With
different versions of the song, a clinically delivered video and
performing slots on most of the major platforms across the continent,
RnM kicked started a rather enviable career.

This past week the group dropped their second video to their
controversial "Call The Doctor" song (3wow) me). The video is under
the directive tutelage of Nana Asihene and its the second video from
the group. The video is an absolute masterpiece, an art cleverly
executed a storyline well told. The group in recent times has faced
the inevitable test of bonding which most groups don't survive. The
release of this video confirms their relentlessness and unbarred
passion towards their career, a commitment that surpasses all personal
emotions and differences.

The girls have in their short existence
noticed a very essential element in their field, communication and the
need to constantly stay in touch with their fans. They are constantly
on the look out to listen to their fans and deliver according to their
desire. You can find the trio on Facebook and twitter as RnM Official
and @RnMOfficial respectively.

The group according to close sources is undergoing a total remake and
preparing strongly for the year ahead. In a related development, it is
believed that the group has recently recorded a banger with 4x4.
As the year closes, nothing
more would be more appropriate than such a gift. "This is our gift to
our fans, we are because you are" they are quoted as saying.

Leila Djansi finally sells out in Ghana with ‘Ties That Bind’

Los Angeles based Ghanaian film maker, Leila Djansi may have finally broken the jinx surrounding her movie premieres in Ghana as her December 30th premiere of ‘Ties That Bind’ at the National Theatre was as sellout.

Perhaps a ripple effect from sweeping the Ghana Movie Awards held on December 25, Leila, who has previously produced several critically acclaimed and award-winning movies but never managed to sell out any of her premieres, exorcized her demons and packed the National Theatre auditorium with two showings of ‘Ties That Bind’. The first showing filled the auditorium and some patrons with tickets had to either stand and watch the movie or wait for the second showing.

The premiere was attended by the cast and crew and special guests including former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and the Australian High Commissioner. Two of the three leading ladies, Ama K Abebrese and Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde were in attendance looking ravishing and excited about the movie. A stunning Omotola, dressed in a dark-brown gown adorned with a ruby laced neckline, arrived at the National Theatre nearing the end of the first showing for ‘Ties That Bind’, and she did it in style. And Ama K wore an overbust gown by KNAF Couture adorned style necklace made of bends and a pendant of the African map.

Also in attendance were movie, music and sports stars such as John Paintsil, Nadia Buari, Majid Michel, John Dumelo (who also starred in the movie), Buk Bak, Menaye Donkor Muntari, Desmond Elliot and others.

‘Ties That Bind’ is now showing at the Silverbird cinemas and will soon premiere in other regions. The Kumasi premiere took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Kumasi City simultaneously with the Accra premiere and was also over-subscribed!

2011 Year in Review!!!!

Yes another year has come and gone and as we close the chapter on 2011, I bring you highlights of the year. Without a doubt, the biggest highlight of 2011 was the dance craze known as Azonto that had everyone taking notice, from the church to the streets and into the nightclubs. The phenomenon did not only merit and entry into Wikipedia but also had stars like Amber Rose doing it or at least trying it. Sarkodie, one of the artists that helped in making the dance very popular, was also seen showing some top UK acts such as Chipmunk and Wretch 32 how to do the azonto.

Still on Sarkodie, 2011 was the year that the rapper proved his staying power, returning after his award-winning hit 2009 debut album. With his song, ‘You Go Kill Me’ featuring E.L being one of the biggest hits of the year, he followed it with one of the biggest love songs of the year, ‘I’m in Love with U’ featuring Efya to show Ghanaians that indeed he is a versatile rapper. Versatility or not, it seems Ghanaians have accepted Sarkodie and anything he touches becomes a hit. No wonder, when he decided to launch his second album, ‘Rapperholic’ on Christmas day with a music concert at The Dome, it was sold out!

2011 was generally a good year for the Tema rappers and among some of the biggest acts of the year were Stay Jay, Dr Cryme, Keche, and R2bees. Other acts that had a good year were VIP, who won the Ghana Music Award for Artist of the Year; Castro, who was everywhere and on every song; and 4×4 among others. It was also a good year for rapper and producer E.L as he made his biggest impact on the music scene yet! Although he may not have had a huge hit as a solo artist in the year, he produced some of the most loved azonto songs of the year. Singer, Raquel also had a good year and Efya continued to share his vocal genius with the rest of us. On the highlife front, my favourite song was ‘2 Sure’ by Quabena Benji featuring Guru and Kofi B but for some strange reasons, the rest of Ghana didn’t see much of him and his song. Appietus also managed to produce a song for Ofori Amponsah that may bubble into 2012 and mark a comeback for the singer.

Among the big headlines of the year was the rape allegation against rapper, Asem which many believe resulted in his exit from Lynx Entertainment label. He came back with the ‘Last Song’ to wrap up on events in 2011 just like he did with ‘2010 Fyla’ in the previous year but it didn’t have the impact that he expected. Who can forget the news about Mzbel slapping a police officer and spending some time in the cells? What about when she was taken to court and her case had to be adjourned due to a missing docket? Hmm, I have started watching my wits around her since these incidents. How about the nude pictures of rapper Tiffany that leaked following a failed blackmail attempt by some Nigerians? 2011 was surely eventful.

Also in the news were the never-ending reports about Yvonne Nelson, Ekow Smith Asante and Kofi Adjorlolo’s ban from acting, and yes only in Ghana! CEO of Aphrodisiac Nightclub, Confidence Haugen represented Ghana in the Big Brother Amplified reality TV series produced by M-net. She was joined by an unknown Alex Biney, who is now seen at most events holding his own bottle of alcohol and a glass in hand – is that the new swag? Miss Ghana 2010, Stephanie Karikari won Beauty with a Purpose at Miss World, following widespread disapprovals over her crowing as Miss Ghana. Will Miss Malaika 2011, Geraldine Partington have a similar opportunity to prove those who think she didn’t deserve her crown (including me) wrong? Let’s wait and see how she tackles the projects she has chosen to work on, with her beauty.

2011 also saw an end to the 11 year old relationship between the Ghana Music Awards and Telecom Company MTN as the title sponsor for the event, as rivals Vodafone took over the sponsorship for the awards. Analysts are waiting to see how this development would impact on the next award ceremony in 2012. Still on Vodafone, the telecom giants launched the Icons: Divas Edition reality TV series to find Ghana’s biggest girl group. RnM emerged winners and even before their journey into becoming a girl group could take off, there is news that group leader, Denise has left the group. Though, no official communication has been made to that effect, RnM has been performing as a duo and not a trio in recent times.

In event news, 2011 saw several good shows with a few misses here and there. Fellow entertainment critic Francis Doku organized the Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana (MPEG) to award personalities who have distinguished themselves in the field of sports, music, film, radio, TV, comedy and stage. The likes of Agya Koo, Asamoah Gyan, Funny Face and others were honoured; and the public voted for Asamoah Gyan as the Entertainer of the Year. Some of my most memorable events include Famous 5, Ghana Meets Naija, and Legends and Legacy Ball – which did not only see several artist singing Daddy Lumba songs to honour him, but also saw former presidents Rawlings and Kufuor dancing with Nana Konadu Agyamang Rawlings. After three versions of the 4syte Music Video Awards, I am yet to be impressed with the awards. This year’s event was one of my least favourite events of the year!

In movie news we saw Ghana’s first two-cast movie in ‘Why Wed?’, and Shirley Frimpong-Manso launched her 10-Chapter movie series, ‘Adams’ Apples’. ‘Destiny of Lesser Animals’ also showed for a brief period in Ghana and I liked what I saw. But my favourite movie was ‘Ties That Bind’ and judging by the random response I received from the grand premiere recently; my previous review of the movie was quite accurate. If you saw the movie, then perhaps you would understand why it swept the 2011 Ghana Movie Awards with 9 nods including a Best Actress in a Leading Role for Hollywood sweetheart, Kimberly Elise. ‘Ties That Bind’ star, Ama K may have not been nominated in the Ghana Movie Awards lead actress category but 2011 was good for her as she won the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for Best Actress, and the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Best Actress for her role in ‘Sinking Sands’. And who would forget the never-ending noise about the four actresses sharing one Ghana Movie Award car prize?

2011 also saw several international acts performing in Ghana including, Fabolous, Red CafĂ©, Mario, Trey Songz, Busy Signal, Kiprich and T-Pain. Based on the quality of production, my favourite was T-Pain because he had a good act and the sound was superior on the night. Dancehall star, Mavado was also in Ghana but the concert may not be remembered for his performances but the marijuana that filled the Accra Sports Stadium on the night. Amber Rose hosting Vodafone’s 020 Live concert featuring Trey Songz and DBanj surely put some spotlight on Ghana as many couldn’t understand why the former video vixen was chosen to host the concert. My interview with Amber Rose, in which she explained why she didn’t share pictures of the beauty of Ghana but rather pictures of some poor people she visited, also gained international attention (you should see me grinning right now).

Christmas as usual was busy with several activities and in the mist of the excitement, the celebs caught the ‘charity bug’ as those who didn’t do any charity earlier in the year joined in giving back to the society and the needy. During the Christmas season, Jackie Appiah made donations to a rehab for drug and alcohol addicts; Joselyn Dumas made donations to the Korle Bu Hospital; and Confidence Haugen made donations to 4 separate hospitals and children homes. Earlier in the year, John Dumelo also donated to the Wa Basic School on his birthday, promising to build for the School 5 Classrooms estimated at $40,000.

The stars caught more than the ‘charity bug’, they also caught the ‘entrepreneurial bug’ and most of the time it was fashion inclined. Big Brother Africa star turned singer, Mimi launched her Divalish Fashion line, actor Prince David Osei launched his clothing line, and John Dumelo launched his jewelry and hair line, J,Melo.

2011 also saw some sad news as we lost the likes of playwright, Efo Kodjo Mawugbe and actor Gilbert Karikari of the ‘Kejetia’ TV series. But all in all, 2011 was a good year for entertainment in Ghana. Let’s meet same time next year and count down the fun, excitement and misses. Happy New Year and a prosperous 2011 to you all!

Sexy Omotola makes surprise appearance at ‘Ties That Bind’ premiere

Nollywood star actress, Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde pulled a surprise appearance at the Ghana premiere of the award-winning movie, ‘Ties That Bind’, after deliberately telling director, Leila Djansi that she wouldn’t be able to make the premiere in Accra, due to an engagement in Nigeria.

A stunning Omotola, dressed in a dark-brown gown adorned with a ruby laced neckline, arrived at the National Theatre nearing the end of the first showing for ‘Ties That Bind’, and she did it in style. She immediately turned the attention of the press to herself, walking through one interview to the next and posing for one photographer after the other, till the first showing came to an end. When she was introduced to the crowd in the auditorium, she was received with a thunderous applause as she shared her experience of making the movie with the crowd.

She was later besieged by several fans for their photo opportunities until she had to make her way back into the auditorium for the seconding showing. In ‘Ties That Bind’ Omotola plays the role of Adobea, a sick pregnant woman who discovers she has a chronic disease under the most tragic of circumstances. The role recently won Omotola the nod for Best Actress in an African collaboration at the Ghana Movie Awards. The CEO of the awards, Fred Nuamah hinted that while the actress was in Ghana, she would be presented with her trophy.

STAY J MANAGER JAY BLAKK "ARRESTED"!!!

Musician Stay J of "Shashiwowo" fame's manager popularly known as Jay Blakk was arrested by Tema base police Interpo for allegedly stealing a "Sports car" which has been on a search by the said police station for sometime now.

Jay Blakk who works for the record label Under One Entertainment was busted week ago with his friend called Eric according to sources, when they were preparing to shoot the new video for their (record label) new signing Najat of Mento fame unto the under one label.

Sources disclosed that Jay Blakk together with Under One Entertainment plus his friend Eric where looking for a sports car to rent for the video which was suppose to have been shot by Playboy the director behind Tiffany's Last One video ft Castro and hence contacted a friend who is into cars rentals inside Spintex-Accra.

The source added that their friend who rents the cars could not give them a sports car, so he also introduced another car rental guy who offered the said car to Jay Blakk in order to aid the video shoot, but as soon as thy move the Sports car, police busted them, saying the rented car is part of a chain of stolen cars which has been on the search by the police for some time now.

In defending themselves, sources revealed that Jay Blakk together with his friend explained the situation to the police by way of disclosing their friend who introduced the said rental car to them of which the police also went on to arrest their friend who introduced the car dealer to them.

The problem here according to sources was that the police could not lay hands on the guy who actually rented the stolen sports car to Jay Blakk and his friend for the video shoot of Najat hence they have to remain in custody of the police until the runner away stolen car renter is arrested.

Jay Blakk and his friend Eric since then have been with the Tema police station behind bars for a crime they have openly disclosed their ignorance hence we plead to the police to grant them bill as sources say they did not spend the Christmas festivities with family.

This incidence is still under police custody as Jay Blakk and his friend were suppose to be on Bill on Wednesday - 28th of December 2011, so investigations are on the ground and in the case of any updates will let readers and fans of Stay J know.

This is our humble appeal, if Jay Blakk willingly gave out the guys who rented the car to them as sources say then we plead on the behalf of our entertainment member for innocence is so clear from what we have heard so far and hope that he will be set free of all charges after the Law has taken its course with cases like this.

Chipmunk and others rock Ghana!!!

British hiphop star, Chipmunk joined some other UK acts of Ghanaian origin to thrill fans at ‘Ghana Rocks’, one of the most anticipated concerts this past Christmas. Chipmunk performed several of hit songs on the night and enjoyed a good response from the young crowd made up of resident and visiting Ghanaians and other nationals.

Among some of his highlights on the night was dancing very up-close and personal with a girl from the crowd and learning how to dance Azonto from Sarkodie. Also on the bill was for ‘Ghana Rocks’ British singer, Loick Essien, who began his musical career after featuring on rapper Chipmunk’s single ‘Beast’.

The other UK acts included Fuse ODG – who performed his hit song, ‘Azonto’ severally with Killbeat and Tiffany; as well as Mr. Silva, Kwame and Flava. They were joined on stage by some of the best acts from Ghana including R2Bees, VIP, 4X4, Buk Bak, Kwaw Kesse, Tiffany, D Black, Stay J, Castro and many more.
