Mmofra Foundation presents the Party in the Park Fundraiser on August 19, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, featuring live performances from musical artists, M.anifest, The Takashi Band and Ria Boss.
The event will take place at Mmofra Place Park, on Efua Sutherland Road off the Abelenkpe traffic light in Dzorwulu, Accra to benefit the development of the Mmofra Foundation’s unique children’s natural environment and park.
The one-acre plus Mmofra Park site has become an experimental testing ground for learning through sensory, social and physical play that is highly responsive to Ghana’s aesthetic, cultural and form-making heritage. Over the years, Mmofra Foundation has hosted efforts to better understand community demands for recreational space for young people.
“Our vision with Mmofra Park is to address the growing problem of urbanization in Accra where children are getting less attention and less space.

The cultural and social implications of children having safe, educative places and spaces to play, grow and learn about their environment are immense,” shares Professor Esi Sutherland–Addy, Executive Director of Mmofra Foundation and daughter of trailblazing writer and dramatist Efua T. Sutherland who represented Ghana when it led the world in ratifying the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of a Child (CRC) in 1989.
In addition to live musical performances, highlights of the Party in the Park event will include canapes from Urbanbox, a cocktail bar and silent auction featuring vintage Ghana photographs from famed photographer Willis Bell from the Mmofra Foundation archives.
“We are incredibly grateful to the artistes who have donated their time to support our cause especially since the Mmofra Foundation has impacted many of Ghana’s young creatives including Ria Boss who participated in our progamme as a child,” adds Sutherland–Addy.
The conceptual plan for the Mmofra Park includes a community garden, active/teamwork areas, passive social and observation play areas, library and exhibition spaces, as well as context-appropriate vegetation.
“When fully realized, this natural environment hopes to serve as a model for child-centered spaces in Ghana and to help introduce African examples into the current global conversation about the quality of urban living from the child’s perspective,” says Mmofra Foundation’s Project leader Mrs. Amowi Phillips.
Tickets for the Party in the Park may be purchased in advance at Republic Bar in Osu or on site for 30GHC general admission, 100GHC premium admission which include canapes and 150GHC corporate admission which include canapes and cocktails.
