Africa Movie Academy Awards 2017 Call For Entries


The 13th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), the Premier Africa Film Awards® countdown has begun, and the Africa Film Academy cordially invites filmmakers to submit their feature, short, animation and documentary work for consideration in nearly 30 film categories of the awards.

The deadline for all submissions is 30th December 2016; a late entry deadline is 13th January 2017. Nominations will be announced in on 15th April 2017.

The 13th Edition of the AMAAs will be held in June 2017 and televised globally. Only films produced and released between January 2016 and December 2016 may be entered for this celebration of African cinema.
The Africa Movie Academy Awards was founded in 2005. Mostly held annually in Nigeria, the AMAAs is, without a doubt, becoming the most prestigious and glamorous African entertainment industry event of its kind on the continent.

Evolving from a one-day event televised live to an annual chronicled film event for people of African descent across the globe, the AMA Awards is now an established engagement platform for filmmakers, industry professionals, and all creative industry stakeholders.

The primary aim of the AMA Awards is to facilitate the development and showcase the social relevance of African film and cinema. The awards are presented to recognize and honor the excellence of professionals in the film industry. This includes directors, actors, and writers, as well as to unite the African continent and the diaspora through arts and culture.

Over the years, the award presentation has been attended by numerous international media representatives, Hollywood celebrities, Nigerian politicians, other African politicians, journalists, film industry professionals, and actors and actresses from across the world.

The 2016 African Movie Academy Awards took place on June 11, 2016, at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Hacourt, Rivers State. The exciting, sublime and glitzy event was hosted by Mike Ezuruonye and Kgopedi Lilokoe. The ceremony presented the best African actor of the year to Daniel K Daniel for his lead role in Soldiers Story while Fulu Mugovhani won the best actress for her lead role in Ayanda.

Other highlights of the 2016 AMAA Awards include “Missing God” (Nigeria) –winner of Best Film in African Language; “O-Town” (Nigeria) winning Best Original Soundtrack; “Tell Me Something Sweet” (South Africa) winning Best Screenplay; Nana Obiri-Yaboah and Maximilian Clausse “The Cursed One” being named Best Director; “The Fruitless Tree” (Niger) captured the Best Documentary and “Eye Of The Storm” (Burkina Faso) being selected as Best Film of the year. Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs were also presented with the Life Time Achievement Award.

In addition to the aforementioned categories, other categories for nomination in the 2017 Africa Movie Academy Awards include best animation, best diaspora short, best diaspora feature, achievement in costume design, achievement in make-up, achievement in production design, and achievement in editing, best actor and actress in a supporting role, best promising act and more.

Each completed entry form for 2017 entries must be accompanied by all the supporting materials listed on the submission forms, including the synopsis of the film, the list of credits, marketing stills of the movie, filmographies of the directors and producers, copies of the movie in 3DVDS or a hard drive plus a compulsory online submission via Vimeo / we transfer and proof of the right to submit.

All films must indicate the year of copyright. The Africa Film Academy will not accept any film that exceeds the 120-minute run as a feature or a short film that is longer than 40 minutes. AMAA awards two broad categories of short movies and animation. The Academy also awards the category for Best Africa Film in the Diaspora and Best Diaspora Short Film Awards. Inclusive of Caribbean Shorts and Caribbean features.
