CHEMPHE TURNS TO GOSPEL

The entertainment industry is in for a huge surprise. Ghana’s answer to America’s R Kelly, Henry Agyekum-Chemphe known in showbiz as Chemphe has done a surprise U-turn from his sensational, soothing and thought-provoking urban life music to gospel music!

Chemphe has had some really awesome songs to his credit after he debuted with “No Pampanaa” over a decade ago. He got the heads of people nodding and the intelligent minds speak publicly against domestic violence and abuse after he dropped “Why you dey beat am” hit.

The talented musician did not relent but dropped several other hits. However, after a period of silence; a period he believed was used for reflection; he finally has welcomed and accepted his divine call.

He acknowledged his silence in the music industry for these few years to the fact that had to go through a preparation time with God and is excited to kick-start the next and new phase of his life and career.

He has decided to change over from his urban life music which is a blend of all cultures of music genre to gospel. Chemphe will be up against real tough and established giants in the gospel industry but he does not think he is in a competition with anyone. “I was born with the gift of singing and I want to pursue that vision because that is what has been bubbling in me ever since I can remember”, he told this reporter.

Mi do,Yesu is Chemphe’s new single single from the upcoming album “The River of God”which will soon flood the airwaves before month end. This song he said, was birthed from an encounter with God and revealed his love for Jesus and his response of saying Yes to His will.

“It further expresses a deep posturing of who I am with Him and in His presence this is written on my heart as a daily surrender because am totally surrendered to Him”, says Chemphe.

Responding to a question about the turn around, Chemphe said “there has been a turn into the deep because I have responded to the core and true purpose of existence on earth. My music has always been to liberate people both in relationships or bring hope to the down hearted. I am not gone. I am still going into the deep because there is a much deeper cause Jesus wants from me and that has brought me to this wonderful place of His will”.

The strikingly appealing young musician seems to have very modest expectations in his new found call. He told this reporter emphatically that his desire was not for any financial gains but purposely to see people drawn and magnetized to the heart of Jesus.  “My focus is on God and not the industry....my faith is to trust in Him as I head towards Him. Any distractions, I will have my eyes and ears closed to”.

He admonished entertainers like him and people generally to soften up to God’s call and direction for their lives and allow themselves to be used as vessels to lead worship and people to God either through songs, prophecies or preaching of the word of God which  already does.
