AJ Sarpong Fingers Counsellor Lutterodt Over Valentine Comment

Ghanaian Radio and TV presenter, AJ Sarpong has rejected arguments made by controversial Ghanaian counsellor, George Lutterodt, which suggested that the church is Christianizing Val's Day celebrations in Ghana.

The controversial counsellor warned churches to desist from using Valentine’s Day as an opportune time to heal the youth of promiscuity.

“I don’t know what is wrong with some of our churches. The churches now are making this Valentine thing become another form of celebration in the sense of it being christianised,” he fumed.

Responding to the counsellor’s claims last Saturday on Celebrity Fanzone on GH One TV, AJ Sarpong expressed her disagreement with Counsellor Lutterodt and insisted that the church has a very important role to play when it comes to educating the youth about the real essence of love.

She told host Akosua Hanson: “Frankly I disagree with counselor there. There is so much emphasis on sex on Valentine day, so much and there are very impressionable youth all around us who are now attributing Valentine’s Day to that.

“And with the whole commercialization of valentine day; buy flowers, buy teddy bear…There is a lot of depression on that day especially of you don’t have a love one. So it is nice that the church also tries and promote that as well.”

AJ, however advised the church to use the day to promote love for God rather than the emphasis on sex.

“I think the church should bridge the gap and promote something else other than sex. If you don’t have that loved one, perhaps then it is a day to show love to the lord,” she advised.
