MISS UNIVERSE TITLEHOLDER’S FROM GHANA AND NIGERIA WILL PARTNER WITH SMILE TRAIN AFRICA FOR THEIR CLEFT WEEK IN NIGERIA - JANUARY 23-25

Smile Train, the world’s largest cleft organization, will hold a Cleft Week in Nigeria from January 23 – 25 at partner hospital, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital.

The primary goal of the Cleft Week is to raise awareness of clefts and reduce the backlog of those living with untreated clefts throughout Nigeria.

Smile Train Ambassadors, Miss Universe Nigeria Stephanie Agbasi and Miss Universe Ghana Ruth Quashie will play a vital role in helping to create awareness for the Cleft Week and will have the opportunity to interact with some of Smile Train’s cleft patients and observe a life-changing cleft surgery firsthand.

In addition, they will participate in an in-home patient visit and meet with one of Smile Train’s Goodwill Ambassadors, the First Lady of Anambra State, HE Mrs. Ebele Obiano.

“We are honored to work with Miss Universe Nigeria and Miss Universe Ghana and look forward to their support during our Cleft Week in Nigeria,” said Mrs. Nkeiruka Obi, Program Director for Smile Train West and Central Africa. “We believe that together we can reach more children suffering needlessly. Not only creating new smiles, but giving these children a second chance at life.”

Smile Train’s sustainable model provides training, funding and resources to empower local doctors in 85+ developing countries to provide 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities.

Since its founding in 1999, Smile Train has provided more than one million cleft repair surgeries across the world.
