JOSH BLAKK WINS KLM@55 AFRICA MUSIC HUNT

After months of intense competition , Josh Blakk has emerged winner of the KLM@55 Africa Music Hunt challenge.

The final competition was held LIVE on Viasat1’s entertainment and lifestyle programme, The One Show on Sunday, 20th December 2015.

In October this year, KLM and Viasat1 embarked on a journey to search for talented singers with the aim of rewarding them as part of KLM’s 55th anniversary of operations in Ghana.

The campaign dubbed KLM@55 Africa Music Hunt, received hundreds of entries via social media, and after several days of deliberation and sifting, 20 contestants were selected by a jury. The competition was solely driven by social media as participants were tasked to create and upload their own videos on social media platforms and canvass for likes and shares.

Following further tasks, the number was reduced to 10, and then later to five. The five finalists, Nana Kronkron, Piktures 4 Real, Axell, Eni Larbi and Josh Blakk performed their individual choice of songs on The One Show last Sunday to an audience. The judges took into consideration their dexterity, stage performance, voice, and other factors.

They kicked the show running with an excellent group performance of a Christmas song which earned the applause of the excited studio guests. The finalists later performed their individual favorite songs, but Nana Kronkron and Piktures 4 Real failed to impress and were evicted, leaving Josh Blakk, Axell and Eni to fight for the top position.

The final task was for the three finalists to perform African songs. However, it was Josh Blakk who won the hearts of the studio audience and votes of the judges. Eni placed second, while Axell took the third position. All three finalists will travel to Amsterdam, courtesy KLM. The ultimate winner, Josh, was rewarded with a cheque of GHC5,555 and a record deal with Genius, while Eni and Axell took home GHC555 each.

Axel Metselaar, Country Manager for KLM Ghana expressed his excitement at the performance of the finalists, following months of hard work and competition. He also stressed on KLM’s commitment to Ghana and the Ghanaian population. KLM operates with the modern Boeing 777-200 aircraft between Amsterdam and Accra on a daily basis.

KLM’s 55th anniversary activities officially kicked off on 1st November and it run throughout the month.
