One of the biggest criticisms of last weekend’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was the fact that it started late and ended late.
The show which started around 10:00pm and ended around 3.30am has been described by some people as “boring”, citing its protraction as the reason.
Head of brands, communications and media for Charter House, organizers of the event, has blamed award presenters at the event for the prolonged show but I am not buying it, the show was produced to last for such a duration. Too many performances (long ones at that) and too much talking in in between. Anyway here’s what George had to say:
According George Quaye who was speaking on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch with Abrantepa, though the presenters were given guidelines on what to do, some did not stick to the orientation given by the organizers.
“Even though those who were called to present the awards were briefed to greet, mention their names, call for the nominations to be shown on the screens and present the award, those were the moments some were advertising their brands while others gave long speeches. When we calculated the amount of time they spent on stage, it accumulated to one hour twenty minutes”, he noted.
Admitting that some performers exceeded the time allocated to them, Mr. Quaye indicated that it cannot be responsible for the protraction of the show, stressing it was a negligible factor.Head of brands, communications and media for Charter House, organizers of the event, has blamed award presenters at the event for the prolonged show but I am not buying it, the show was produced to last for such a duration. “Most artistes wanted to give their best so they wanted to use their own bands. Changing the band and equipment was one major setback for us. During the rehearsals, it went well; but on action, a few things happened.
If you were watching on TV, you could see we went for a long break. It wasn’t deliberate. We were changing the band. It was for a good reason but the coordination… We were dealing with equipment. However, it was not really due to the artistes performance which dragged the show; rather the award presenters”, he said emphatically.
