GHAMRO Set To Hold Elections On 11th February

The Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) has scheduled 11th February, 2015 as the confirmed date for their pending elections to select board members who will facilitate activities for the organization in 2015-2016.

GHAMRO earlier set December 6, 2014 as the fixed date for elections but was disrupted by a court action brought against it by Rex Boateng, George Dickson and others which caused an end to all the election timelines set last year.

The receiver managers who were appointed by the court to manage and oversee the appointment of a substantive board presented the timelines and modalities of the elections to the media at the GHAMRO conference room on Thursday to emphasize the date for the elections and outline the timelines for the members to comply.

The previous Board of GHAMRO were restrained from continuing work due to an order from court thereby appointing a five-member interim administration to receive, manage and put in place a substantive Board for GHAMRO made up of Nana Aboagye De Costa who is the Chairman, Dorothy Habbadda as Secretary, Kow Seesah Acquaye, Member, Kwame Nsiah-Appau known in showbiz as Okyeame Kwame, member and Enock Agyepong also a member.

Mr Abraham Neutey Adjatey, appointed Administrator for GHAMRO explained that the venues for the election will include Accra which will be held at the CIBT Social Advance, Adjacent Teachers Hall at 9:00am. In Kumasi, it will be held at Apatakese Ase, Cultural Centre at 9am and in Tamale at the Cultural Center at the same time.

He said applications for the GHAMRO Board Chairman position will go for GHC500, Board Vice Chairman for GHC400 and Board Members for GHC300.

Mr Adjatey added that the six-month term of the receivers managers has been most challenging especially in the face of the hostile environment and individuals bent on discrediting their work.

“It is important to mention that during the past six-month stay in office; we had no access to funds as the defendants, in association with the Agricultural Development Bank, had a no debit placed on the GHAMRO account making it difficult to manage administration and the election of a substantive,” he stressed.

Below is the election timelines which members are to take notice:

January 22nd 2015 for Picking of Nominations forms

27th January, 2015 for Submission of Application forms

30th January, 2015 for Publication of Application list

11th February, 2015 for Elections

18th February, 2015 for Meeting of Receivers Managers and New Board

27th February, 2015 for Inauguration of Elected Board

The election will be entirely supervised by the Electoral Commission.
