Ghanaian reggae, dancehall artiste, Episode says though some people tag reggae and dancehall artistes as “wee” smokers, he doesn’t smoke; neither is he affected by the perception.
In an interview with Abrantepa on Radio Univers, the 2014 Bazz awards nominee said his music journey has been rough considering the fact that most people perceive reggae and dancehall artistes as “wee” smokers.
He added that, but for the fact that dancehall is taking over now; no attention would have been given to artistes who belong to that genre because of the stereotype.
The “Mandela” hit maker stated that he doesn’t begrudge anyone for stereotyping reggae, dancehall artistes as “wee” smokers because it is their opinion as such, he sees no reason to take offense or be affected.
“I don’t consider it as disrespect because everyone is entitled to their opinion. Sometimes when I go for shows, some people ask if I have “some” on me. But I tell them I don’t; I don’t go mad when people ask”, he said.
Asked about the public perception that his dramatic performances were under the influence of “wee” Episode told the host of Weekend Mix, “I don’t smoke. Sometimes I watch my tapes and I ask ‘wow, did I do that?’ I believe that most of the time, it comes by itself. I have trained myself to be that energetic. To be précised on what to do, I don’t really go about that (his performance). It depends on the show and the atmosphere. When the crowd is energetic, it encourages you and puts you in the mood to deliver”.
