Information available to NEWS-ONE indicates that Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has earned over seven nominations including the most sought-after Artiste of the Year for the 2014 BASS Awards.
BASS Awards 2014 expected to be launched on May 30 along with the full list of nominees, is the biggest Reggae and Dancehall Awards in Africa currently. The award is specially designed to show gratitude to Reggae and Dancehall musicians, to serve as an annual gathering of lovers of Reggae and Dancehall and generally present top-notch entertainment to the public.
Shatta Wale in the previous year pulled out of the award event due to personal reasons but a source close to the 2014 BASS Awards Committee -headed by Ahuma ‘Daddy Bosco’ Ocansey- disclosed to the paper that the ‘Dancehall King’ singer is leading in terms of nominations for this year’s event.
“There are so many names on the nomination list for this year’s BASS Awards, but all I can say is Shatta Wale is the one topping the list,” the source said.BASS Awards 2014 expected to be launched on May 30 along with the full list of nominees, is the biggest Reggae and Dancehall Awards in Africa currently. The source also added that Stonebwoy also made a massive appearance on the list.
But when the paper contacted Gabriel Boateng, head of Communications at Rackus Production, organizer of the BASS Awards, he stated that he would neither confirm nor deny whether Shatta Wale was the artiste leading the 2014 BASS Awards nominations.
“We will all have to wait till the official launch of the event to find out who topped in nominations. The year under review was a Reggae and Dancehall year and we believe BASS Awards this year is going to be a bigger platform to unearth some of the greatest talents in Ghana. If the Artiste of the Year winner for the just ended VGMA is from the Reggae and Dancehall genre then it confirms that the genre is making a mark in Ghana.
The likes of Stonebwoy, Episode and Jupiter, among others have really paid their dues to the genre. So let’s just see how it goes. This year’s BASS Awards is going to be bigger than that of last year,” Gabriel Boateng told NEWS-ONE.
