Haha we may have our own case of ‘Solange-Jayz’ in Ghana pretty soon…check out this story culled from nydjlive.com:
The recent outcry by a chunk of Ghanaian musicians on the activities and operations of the Ghana Music Right Owners Association (GHAMRO) is gradually becoming alarming and the earlier something positive is done, the better.
The latest to add his voice to the issue is Bantama Kwasi Boakye
hitmaker Kofi B who in a strong presentation cautioned Carlos Sakyi and
his executives to resign or face their wrath.
In an interview on Accra based Adom FM on Saturday, Kofi B who
sounded very aggressive asked the leadership to render accounts of every
penny they have collected on behalf of musicians and step aside for
fresh elections as their leadership was even operating illegally after
their two year term in office expired some months ago.
“They should resign from that position or else, we would beat them
but of course they need to account for any pessewa before they resign.
You can’t sit in the offices and allocate any amount of money for
yourselves as allowances. When was the last time Carlos Sakyi and his
people released musical materials? You sit there and eat from our sweat”
– he stated.
The vociferous artist added he was requested to pay a hundred cedis for an introduction letter although he was a strong standing member of the Association and paid dues.
“The last time I went there for a letter, I was charged a hundred
cedis before given an introduction and I swear they will account for
every pessewa”.
In a matter of three (3) months, the current president of the association (Carlos Sakyi) and the executives
have come under severe criticisms not only from musicians from across
the length and breadth of the country but surprisingly members of the executive board itself who asked for accountability and are election of new leaders to run the affairs of the society.
