You can call it a total shake-up or a revolution and you will not be far from right on the latest happenings in the media landscape after Komla Dumor`s death. Reports say he died of cardiac arrest or call it simply heart attack.
Despite the fact that it was a heavy blow we dealt with as a people in this country, one positive trend has emerged on radio, tv and among media practitioners in general.
Whilst waiting for the final autopsy report which will confirm what really killed our senior colleague in his London home, it is clear that most of our hardworking media people are now frightened. One trend which has emerged is the speed at which radio and television people are calling on doctors and health personnel to educate them on the importance of health related issues with emphasis on the heart.
It looks as though most of us in the media lacked knowledge on stress issues. Now after the death of Komla Dumor, we are now checking our stress levels in whatever we do regardless of how much is involved. Looking at our highly competitive media with its insatiable remuneration, many in the practice work tirelessly to meet deadlines and demands from their bosses. We do this at the detriment of our lives where sleep and rest evade most of us in our line of duty.
We at Flex newspaper have been monitoring the various entertainment review platforms and have observed that our people are now paying attention to their health status better now than they used to do. With our desire to succeed in whatever we do, some of us are at risk. Our industry lacks the requisite resources to make work simple, yet we deliver perfectly and excellently as if everything is okay at our disposal.Despite the fact that it was a heavy blow we dealt with as a people in this country, one positive trend has emerged on radio, tv and among media practitioners in general.

Now to the bosses in the various media outfits, one thing you can do to help your staff members know their health status is to organize strategic and occasional health screening to test the medical fitness of your staff members. It is our wish that this gesture will not only stop with the media houses but also with the various entertainment unions and associations.
If they need their members alive without reports similar to what happened to Ronnie Coaches of Buk Bak fame and movie producer Eric Asante of No Limit Entertainment, then we need to put our hands on the desk to prolong our lives. Let`s check our health status now or never!!!
