Lord Kenya not bothered about VGMA nomination

Secular-turned-gospel musician, Evangelist Lord Kenya, has opined that he does not care whether he gets nomination in VGMA or not.

The plight of secular-turned gospel musicians in Ghana is one of a wistful tale.

The moment a secular artiste becomes 'born again' and turns a gospel artiste, the best Ghanaians do is to congratulate the fellow. After that, support for the artiste and his/her works (music) is left between the former and the lord who 'called' him/her.

First, if the secular-turned-gospel artiste releases albums, hardly are they played by DJ's on radio.

Secondly, when the secular-turned-gospel artistes release album (s) onto the market, the very fans who gave them encomium for becoming gospel musicians don't patronize their songs as they used to with such artistes former secular songs.

Thirdly, hardly or rarely is secular-turned-gospel artistes nominated or their songs/albums nominated for music awards in Ghana. Fourthly, the secular-turned-gospel artistes are rarely called by pastors of big churches to perform for their congregation.

In an interview with Flex newspaper, secular-turned-gospel musician Evangelist Lord Kenya, we asked him how he feels about secular musicians who become 'born again' and subsequently produce gospel songs but their songs do not get nomination in VGMA. In his candid, he opined.

“It is a pity this is the fate of secular-turned musicians in Ghana. Those days when I was in 'darkness' and I was producing mundane songs, I was getting all the nominations, awards, cheers and praises. Now that I am doing songs for Jesus Christ, they don't care about me. My gospel songs are not being played on radio; though I've served some DJs promo copies.

Those days, DJs would lobby for my songs to be leaked to them so they can play. The Lord called me and the very DJs don't play my songs. This should tell you the kind of world we find ourselves in. They wish you remain in the past dirty lifestyle. However, whether VGMA gives me nomination or not, I'm not bothered. I have Jesus and that is what gives me joy.”

Well, we hope God gives secular-turned-gospel musicians the steadfastness to propagate his sublime message, because, If some secular artistes who become 'born again' and subsequently turn gospel artistes regret becoming so or go back for their 'vomit,' it is perhaps due to the lack of support we give them.
