Henry Agyei Gyamerah known in Ghanaian music circles as OD4 who has been missing from the music scene for a while now has told Flex newspaper that he has changed his name to 'Kofi Marvelous.’
He said he decided to change his name because his style of singing which makes him sound Jamaican makes people think he is not a Ghanaian but now that he is gearing up for the international market, he would love to use a name that has traces of 'Ghanaianness' in it so he is not mistaken for a Jamaican.
“After touring in UK, USA, German, France and also Jamaica, my management thought it was a brilliant idea that we had some Jamaican friends. Moreover, dancehall music has always been my style (genre) and my fans know that. So I am here again to do my thing and also help elevate the Ghanaian music industry to the apex. But honestly my colleagues in the dance hall fraternity have really put up a good job in my absence.
Samini, Stone boy, Jupiter, Natural Face and also the man of the moment, Shatta Wale have kept the genre alive,” he said. OD4 who now wants to be called Kofi marvelous disclosed that people can try to debate who the Dance Hall King is, but Shatta Wale is really talented and Samini is also good, considering performance and delivery. But his favorite dancehall artiste is Stonebwoy.
Asked what other new thing he is bringing on board, the Shaggy look-alike said he is coming out with a new album which will showcase his improved singing skills.
Kofi has three new singles out: 'Sexy Lady' ft. Destiny from Nigeria, 'Jah Guide' and 'Bad Man Town' produced by Hasty of OMG Studio. In 2010 he released a single titled 'Baby” and has been silent since then till recently. He can also be reminded with 'Gyegye Me So' which he did with Ewura Esi in 2006.
O.D 4 now joins the Bertha (now Yaa Yaa), Abortion (now Coded), Ded Buddy (now Cwesi), Lazzy of VIP (now Zeal) amongst others who have changed their names recently.
